Cunningham Hill Infant School Newsletter – December 2017

katherine cooperOver the last few weeks we have been treated to fantastic performances from all the children. Thank you to all the adults who have made this happen. Reception treated us to a wonderful production ‘Santa’s Workshop’. Songs at St Luke’s was just right and the Year 1 children performed magnificently. The Year 2s sang fantastically. Thank you for your kind donations at the end of each performance for ‘St John’s Ambulance’. We raised £240.73. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, friends and relations who came along to watch and respected our wish not to use mobile devices during the performances. In the New Year we will be sending home an updated Acceptable Use Agreement and eSafety rules

During November Mrs Barwin launched the National Anti-Bullying week. The children have been discussing the theme ‘All Different – All Equal’ in a series of class and school assemblies as well as a workshop provided by an outside provider. We are proud of the children’s responses towards bullying and this reflects the powerful ethos of respect and tolerance in which we place great importance. For your information, we review our Anti-Bullying policy annually and a review has already taken place on this policy. An updated copy is on the school website.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Children in Need Day. We raised £171.40. We have received a letter from the Foodbank. We donated 201 items. Our new caretaker, Michael, started this week. Do say hello if you see him

Moments from Year 2

The children have enjoyed investigating vehicles as part of our science and DT. They are very excited about testing vehicles on different surfaces and creating their own vehicle from the time of the Great Fire of London. Over this term the children have been enthusiastic when completing pieces of writing which have been inspired from our book The Tin Forest. Both classes have benefited from learning the life skill of being safe near water and developing their swimming skills. Silver class will be swimming again after the holidays on the 10th of January.

Moments from Year 1

Year 1 has had a busy few weeks leading up to Christmas. We have been practising our play and have performed in front of Reception and Year 2 at school and have also completed our performances for the grown-ups at St Luke’s Church. The year 1 team are really proud of how well the children have learned their lines and how beautifully they were singing. Well done! We have also managed to squeeze in a visit to St Paul’s church for a Christmas trail which the children thoroughly enjoyed, and we would like to thank St Paul’s for their kind invitation.

Moments from Reception

December has been a busy month for Reception.  They all had a part in the Christmas Play “Santa’s Workshop” and performed with confidence.  To learn so many songs, is quite an achievement after being in School for 3 months.  The children have made a tree decoration and 4 were chosen from each class to hang it on the tree with Miss Cooper, before the big countdown to turn the lights on.  Every child has made a Christmas card, choosing their favourite from 4 designs.  We have been thinking about joining, manipulating, combining media and representing their own ideas through art.  The children have continued to sing at Orchard Care home and the residents have been joining in with the traditional Christmas songs.  They have enjoyed hearing our more modern songs, like “10 Little Elves” too.  Well done to all the children, for an enjoyable and productive first term in school.

Well done to Clarissa & Kaden for super sorting of the seasons. John for his number work. Skyla, Eva, Nabila, Jake, Caitlin, Aaliya, Noah & William came to show me their wonderful writing. Neha made a fantastic model house from 1666.
