The term began with our three days of the school’s birthday celebrations. The children had a wonderful time being creative and finding out / trying some activities from the 60s. Thank you for their wonderful 60s outfits!
This week was back to timetable and all our lessons. In maths we have been adding and subtracting near numbers (9, 11, 19, 21, 99 and 101) and doubling and halving. We are trying to develop the children’s reasoning skills so for home learning this week we have sent home a sheet of statements that the children need to prove or disprove and show evidence why.
Writing today we began to look at Meerkat mail by Emily Gravett and the children had to write sentences stating what they would take in their suitcases. The challenge was to use cause and effect conjunctions to add more detail to their sentences.
In computing we used the new blubots to remind ourselves how to program a sequence of instructions to make it move. This is to start our new unit of work: We are programmers.
In science we are starting to look at what animals, including humans, need for survival.
In geography / topic we began to use atlases to name the continents and oceans of the world. Some children found countries and identified which continent they were in and the nearest ocean.
Today the children were introduced to this half terms value of respect and we talked about the different ways you can show respect.
Have a lovely weekend
Mrs Fernandes, Mrs Hostein and Miss Spencer.
