Welcome back after half term, we hope you had a lovely week off with your child(ren)
Today we introduced our new book: Journey by Aaron Becker. The children were surprised that there were no words in this book but by half way through we could hear” this is so exciting!” We looked at the story as a whole and then created a storyboard to break it into sections. Next week we will be working in teams to look in detail at sections of the story and these will be used in the afternoon with our visitor John O’ Leary, who is a paper engineer.
In maths we have been investigating 2d and 3d shapes. The children have been sorting and classifying shapes depending on their properties. They have enjoyed constructing 3d shapes using a range of materials. We have introduced the children to right angles so please do look for these in the ‘real world’. We have sent a home learning sheet with your child today to practise recognising the properties of some shapes.
In computing we have continued with the mystery of the missing chocolate cake! This has involved sending and receiving class emails. We have discussed how we keep ourselves safe when using email. Next week we will be introducing how to record data simply on a spread sheet.
Gold class have returned to swimming this week and was enjoyed by all. The children are working on improving their confidence and strokes. Silver class have begun to learn a dance to Monster mash which again was enjoyed by all.
In history the children wrote an assessed piece answering the question Why did the Great Fire Burn down so many houses? We were impressed with their recollection of facts and some children’s ability to talk about cause and effect.
Have a lovely weekend, remember it’s world book day on Thursday and we are dressing up.
Mrs Fernandes, Mrs Hostein and Miss Spencer.
