We are back and the children have shown that they are ready for another term, our last in Year 1. We can’t believe how quickly the year is passing by. The children are showing increased confidence and independence and we are very proud of them.
As you will see in our half-term overview, sent home with their home learning books today, our topic is based on traditional tales, especially the story of “Jack and the Beanstalk”. We have read different versions of the story, re-told the story using sounds during Music Lesson and today the children described some of the characters in the book, using a variety of adjectives.
In Maths we are investigating numbers within 100, using place value charts, part-part-whole model and concrete manipulatives, especially dienes. The children are using their knowledge of number bonds to represent numbers greater than 20. In one of our lessons we investigated the number 100 and how to represent it using groups of 10.
The good weather has allowed us to take our learning outside more often, so please remember to send your children wearing a cap (preferably a school cap), a water bottle and also wearing sun cream. Please apply sun cream at home as children are not allowed to bring it into school.
Thank you to all of you who replied to our consultation regarding the Year 1 school trip. We have had a great response and we have confirmed the educational trip with both Ashridge Forrest and coach company. Letters will be sent home next week with more details. Inform your class teacher if you would like to help by supporting a small group of children during the trip.
Have you all a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine!
