This week in maths the children have begun addition and subtraction. They have been using the number bonds they learnt in Year 1 to solve further calculations. For example: I already know that 3 + 4 = 7, so I know 13 + 4 = 17 and continuing the pattern with numbers to 100. Please do keep practising number bonds within 10 and 20 to support your child. Next week we will be moving onto adding 2  2 digit numbers.

Spellings for this week have been stuck into every child’s home learning book. The rule for this week was the silent k and g to make the ‘n’ sound at the beginning¬† of words: knee and gnat.

In Science the children learnt the words: transparent, translucent and opaque. They then sorted different materials using these words.

In writing today the children described a setting from the Tin Forest. They used adjectives in front of nouns to describe the weather, the old man and the rubbish dump. An activity for home learning has been sent to continue this use of adjectives to describe different kinds of weather.

In computing we began the ‘We are researchers’ unit where the children have begun to use a mind mapping program on Purple mash to collate questions they would like to ask about the Great Fire of London. Over the coming weeks we will then safely use the internet to research the answers and then present their findings using Power Point.
