A week of rhythm and rhyme!

We have begun to look at poetry and the different vocabulary connected to it. This week the children have written silly nursery rhymes thinking carefully about the rhythm. They then read further poems and investigated rhyming words. In today’s big writing the children wrote an acrostic poem. We will be continuing with poetry next week and will begin to look at kennings.

In maths we have investigated 2d and 3d shapes. We have named the shapes and their properties. We have sent home some 2d shape investigative work.

In science we have begun our learning on plants. This week we began to learn about seed dispersal which plants do to survive. We made our own red maple tree ‘helicopter’ seeds and watched how the wind blew them to a new area. We also made a class dandelion seed head and thought about how the wind / breathe disperses the seeds. Next week we will look at more ways of dispersal.

We have been practising for sports day and remembering to keep within our lanes. If you are coming to sports day and are willing to supervise a small group (6) of year 2 children please see any of us. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Fernandes, Mrs Hostein and Miss Spencer.
