What a fantastic start to the year. Thank you to all the parents who attended last night. Handouts will be sent on Monday to all those who were unable to attend.
Our focus this week in literacy has been based around the story: On Sudden Hill. The main part of the story is based around friendships. The children have described a setting, their favourite part of the story and a retelling of the story with changes to make it their own. We are using this for assessment to enable us to plan progression for your child’s writing. Next week we will be starting Read, Write Inc.
In maths we have been focusing on place value of 2 digit numbers to 99. The children have been partitioning the numbers and working out the value of each digit. They have been using dienes and bead strings to represent the numbers. Place value continues next week.
The children have begun to investigate different materials in science. They thought about the names of the materials (wood, plastic, glass, metal etc) and how to group them.
Our topic on The Great Fire of London has begun with investigating how London was different in the past to how it looks now. The children observed several pictures and did a comparison.
Home learning books have been sent home today, to be returned by Wednesday please. There is a box in each classroom for the children to place their books each week. Purple mash log ins have been amended and stuck into the back of their home learning books.
Have a lovely weekend
Year 2 Team.
