The children began their read, write inc and literacy and language lessons this week. They have recapped their sounds and are using this to develop their reading and writing. Big writing today introduced a new book called The Tin Forest which we will be revealing over the coming weeks. Today we predicted what the story could be about from the front cover and then thought of questions to ask the people who live in the isolated house. The children then wrote up to 6 questions remembering to use a question mark at the end of their sentence.
The bug club log ins have been sent home and the children have new books. Please do tell us if you are having any difficulties logging on. Please do encourage your child to read as often as possible using either bug club or their school reading book.
We have continued to explore place value of numbers to 100. This week the children have used the greater and less than symbols by looking at the tens value to order the number. This then lead to number sequences and patterns. We have sent home some home learning activities to practise tens and ones.
The children went for a walk around the school to look at the different materials that could be found in the building and outside. We have added some 2dos on Purple mash which links in man made and naturally occurring materials.
The children began gymnastic sessions this week and silver class enjoyed their first swimming lesson. Gold class have begun to develop skills leading to team games.
Next week we will begin a spelling programme with all the children. On each Monday they will be taught the letter pattern and sound for that weeks words. each day the children will practise spelling and handwriting 2 words to fit the spelling rule. We will post the spellings they have covered each week on this blog.
Have a lovely weekend
The Year 2 team.
