Welcome back, we hope you all had a lovely break.

Thank you for our lovely and generous gifts you gave us at the end of last term.

The children have all come back ready to learn. We have begun our new topic for this term: Fire Fire! They have looked at pictorial sources and made predictions about what the people were doing, why they were doing and how they were feeling. The event, of course, was the Great Fire of London. The sources were pictures of the fire dating back to 1667 and 1700.

In maths we have begun to learn about fractions. The children have been learning about halves, thirds and quarters. They found fractions of numbers to 20 and shapes. They have also learnt how to write a numerical fraction and what the different parts represent. So, 1/2 is 1 equal piece of the 2 pieces. Ask your child what the name of the line in a fraction is called! This will continue next week.

Today the children were given an empty egg box in pairs and asked what they could use this for. There were some very imaginative answers. They then listened to a description and closed their eyes to visualise the character. It was an egg box dragon. They then drew their dragons and thought of some adjectives and expanded noun phrases to describe their dragon. Next week they will be making them by junk modelling so please send in any smaller boxes, packets, tubes and milk bottle tops that you may have. Thank you.

In science the children have begun the topic of materials. They investigated some objects, decided which materials they were made out of and why due to their properties.

Emails and chocolate cake are the focus of our new computing topic. The children have received an email from Miss Cooper about a chocolate that has gone missing from the staffroom asking for the children’s help to solve the mystery. We will be discussing how to stay safe when opening, reading emails and attachments. They will also listen to audio files and design tables to record the information.

What a busy week it has been!

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Fernandes, Mrs Hostein and Miss Spencer.
